More people are booking facial surgeries because they want to look better in selfies.

We’ve been able to take photos of ourselves for several years, but it seems many of us want to improve the way we look in these snaps by having lip lifts and removing excess skin above the eyelid, both of which make us look younger.

According to the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery’s (AAFPRS) latest study, 79 per cent of members said patients are booking appointments in order to improve their appearance in selfies.

Nearly three-quarters of AAFPRS surgeons conducted lip lifts last year, compared with 70 per cent the year before. This involves removing skin under the nose to stretch the upper lip and make it look fuller. The nasal tip tends to drop over time, which is why having this procedure lends itself to a more youthful look.

Another procedure that has become popular due to selfie culture is blepharoplasty, which is the removal of skin above the eyelid. Getting rid of this ‘hood’ also makes you look younger, which is why this treatment was the second most requested one of 2022.

This is despite more surgeons seeing patients younger than 30 years old. Almost three-quarters said there had been a rise in younger people wanting cosmetic surgery or injectables last year, as many are looking for age prevention rather than cure these days.

There are lots of procedures to choose from these days, from wrinkle relaxing injections to lip fillers in Wheat Hampstead, so talk to an expert about your aesthetic goals before making a choice.
